Curriculum Intent Statement – The Haven CE Methodist Primary School 

At The Haven, our curriculum is designed to be ambitious, inclusive, and values-led, ensuring that every child is equipped to thrive academically, emotionally, and spiritually. Rooted in our Christian ethos and inspired by Matthew 5:16 — “Let your light shine before others” — our intent is to nurture confident, articulate, and compassionate learners who are prepared for life in modern Britain and beyond. 

We foster a culture of enquiry and oracy, encouraging children to ask questions, engage in dialogue, and think critically. Our curriculum is underpinned by high-quality texts and vocabulary development, enabling all pupils to access learning, express themselves clearly, and develop a lifelong love of reading. 

Our curriculum is coherently planned and sequenced to ensure progression and depth across all subjects. It reflects our commitment to equity and belonging, providing meaningful experiences that celebrate diversity and promote positive behaviours for learning. Every child is supported to reach their full potential, including those with SEND and disadvantaged pupils. 

As a Church of England school, our values are woven throughout the curriculum, guiding children to develop a strong moral compass and a sense of social responsibility. We actively promote spiritual development, British values, and global awareness, preparing pupils to navigate the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.
