Hansel and Gretel Book Review

Rating: *****

Author: Neil Gaiman

This book is a re-telling of the story of a happy Hansel and Gretel but be warned: it has a dark twist. If you’re age 9 or over, then this is the story for you. It has excitement, scary moments and great illustrations.

The Plot

This takes the normal story of Hansel and Gretel and changes it by adding war, soldiers and starvation. Like the normal story, the dad takes the children in to the forest to avoid starving himself, but in this dark fairy tale the children can’t find their way back.

Favourite Part

The description of the gingerbread house – although the pictures are black and white the description makes it seem colourful.
